Astros owner Jim Crane said the franchise was thoroughly impressed by Flores and his extensive background in scouting and player acquisition during the interview process. Flores spent the past ten seasons working within the St. Louis Cardinals organization, where he started as director of scouting before being promoted to assistant general manager of amateur and pro acquisition. Before moving into front office operations, Flores enjoyed an eight-year playing career as a left-handed relief pitcher in the major leagues. His executive background also includes founding a sports technology company and working as a college baseball analyst after making over 350 appearances on the mound for multiple clubs.
Expressing gratitude for the new role, Flores said he looks forward to contributing to the ongoing success of a franchise with a long winning tradition under Crane. He also thanked the Cardinals organization for supporting his professional development before relocating his family to Texas.
The front office transition arrives as the ballclub prepares for a busy winter of roster management and player evaluations following another postseason exit. The Astros announced that Flores will be formally introduced to the media during a press conference scheduled for Monday morning at Daikin Park.
